Administration and Donor Services
The Administrative Division, under the direction of Executive Vice President Kory Swanson, is responsible for the organization’s management, accounting, financial reporting, development, human resources, office operations, and programs for donors such as The Locke Letter, a quarterly newsletter of JLF news and speech excerpts, and Impact Report, a weekly email summary of JLF programs and effectiveness distributed to major supporters and board members. The Administrative team includes Director of Advancement Kristina Mitten Sanders, Financial Manager Page Cox, Administrative Assistant Melissa Mitchell, and interns assigned to office operations and other support services.
The John Locke Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, nonpartisan think tank supported entirely from voluntary, tax-deductible contributions. Since opening in 1990, JLF has worked hard to become the broadest-supported think tank in North Carolina.
JLF does not accept government funds. It has received support from thousands of individuals, businesses, and foundations. Included among JLF’s donors have been some of the state’s leading corporate citizens — such as GlaxoSmithKline, Duke Energy, First Citizens, Wachovia, Progress Energy, Coca-Cola Consolidated, R.J. Reynolds, Microsoft, Lowe’s, Centura Bank, BB&T, Weyerhaueser, Harris-Teeter, and Martin Marietta Materials — as well as major grantmakers such as the John William Pope Foundation and the E.A. Morris Foundation. JLF raises money through formal grant applications and proposals, meetings and receptions, and campaigns conducted through mailings, paid advertising, and online appeals.
An equal-opportunity employer, JLF welcomes applications for its regular internship program as well as job openings posted in Carolina Journal and other print and online media. It often contracts for research expertise, publication design and printing, events management, and other functions. The most important assets available to the Foundation are its people – directors, officers, employees, contractors, advisors, volunteers, and financial contributors. They are all highly valued members of the JLF team.
