• The state board of community colleges agrees with board member Beverly Perdue's proposal to continue to exclude illegal aliens from enrolling in degree programs until further study of the issue is completed. The state chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business endorses Pat McCrory, citing his record on taxes and regulations.
• Mike Easley's public approval continues its slide. Only 32 percent of respondents in the latest WRAL poll rated his job performance as excellent or good, down from 40 percent in June and 47 percent late last year.
• Kay Hagan's challenge to Elizabeth Dole is included in a national wire story about North Carolina's competitiveness this year. Dole discusses military and foreign-policy issues during an appearance in Cherry Point.
