Easley: Fore!

Posted by Rick Henderson at 09:26 AM

The latest revelation from the News & Observer's Andy Curliss: While in office, former Gov. Mike Easley got nearly $50,000 in membership benefits from an exclusive private golf club for free ... and never disclosed it.

Members at the private Old Chatham Golf Club near Research Triangle Park include many prominent business and political figures, some of whom Easley appointed to high-level positions during his two terms as governor.

The Easley spin machine (now that Mary's out of work, where's Mike getting the money to pay these people?) says he really didn't need to disclose because the "benefits" he received from membership never exceeded the $200 threshold that triggers the reporting requirement.

Even worse, said Easley handler Ace Smith,

"Any insinuation otherwise is misleading and libelous."

Riiiiight.

Be looking forward to that lawsuit, counselor.

For many things Easley (there's so much perfidy going on, it's hard to keep up), check out  CJ's coverage here.
