The turnout wasn't historic

This Politico piece is a must-read for understanding Election 2008. Contrary to expectation, there does not appear to have been a significant increase in voter turnout nationwide (though North Carolina's experience was different). What really mattered was that Democratic turnout was up and Republican turnout was down.
