Shannon, As someone who has worked in institutional research at an elite private college, I can say that colleges and universities absolutely, positively are concerned about the gender makeup of their student body. And it has nothing to do with some sort society equity concept. No, it's much more basic and bottom line than that. You see, males are more likely than females to donate money to the school after they graduate.
