Interesting article in yesterday’s Winston-Salem Journal on the Foxx campaign’s financial activities:

Foxx has given nearly $35,000 to 30 Republican congressional candidates in 20 states, according to the Sept. 30 FEC filing. In addition, the Foxx for Congress committee has contributed $81,000 to two key GOP organizations – $76,000 to the Republican National Congressional Committee and $5,000 to the N.C. Republican Executive Committee, according to the FEC documents.

….Documents that Foxx for Congress filed with the FEC show that 26 of the 30 candidates Foxx has contributed to are incumbents. Money was sent to U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson in New Mexico, for example. She got $2,000. Rep. Charles Boustany of Louisiana’s 7th District got $1,000. Fellow N.C. GOP Reps. Robin Hayes and Charles Taylor got $2,000 apiece from Foxx for Congress.

Incumbents on both sides of the aisle try to consolidate their party’s power with such contributions. For example, U.S. Rep. Mel Watt, D-12th, has given about $20,000 to other congressional candidates ahead of the November general elections, as well as $20,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Funny the Journal didn’t say to which candidates Watt is cutting checks. Maybe that’s because Watt donated a cool $2,000 to this incumbent.

And the Journal wonders why Foxx won’t speak to them.
