Whilst all about, children perish in food deserts – or so we hear – the town fathers in Black Mountain are inquiring into topics of a more eternal nature, like whether ’tis better to have a tattoo parlor in heavy industrial or agriculturally-zoned districts.

Forest City allows tattoo parlors within the city in highway business and industrial districts provided that the business is not located within 700 feet of a church, elementary or secondary school, daycare or nursery, public park, a property zoned for residential use, or any establishment with an on-premise ABC license.

If I had my druthers, I would require them to be built within 200 feet of at least one residence with a feather bed and a whistling tea kettle, but no less than 500 yards from the nearest high-voltage transformer built after 1986, and on slopes with a natural grade between 5 to 10 percent.
