Appearing in today’s N&R, Thomas Sowell says* it’s “hard to get the supporters of Barack Obama to give a coherent reason for their support. The basis for their support seems to be guilt, gullibility or– in the case of some conservatives– a hatred of John McCain.”

Case in point, Yvonne Kane of Asheboro (I wonder which side of the alcohol vote she was on) writing in a letter to the editor:

Having George Bush as president has been like having a terminal illness. I have prayed each night for a better tomorrow. I have sadly awakened each morning only to more bad news.

A suppressed people are easier to rule. I don’t think I need to list the suppressed conditions we live under. I would never have imagined that in eight years an administration would succeed in raping and bankrupting our country. We are left with Bush’s spoils of war and greed which has benefitted the 1 percent of the ruling wealthy.

…..A vote for Sen. Obama is a vote for a candidate in touch with the 99 percent of the people who work from the heart for the survival of this country.

99 percent of the people, eh?

*Sowell also told me something I did know:

Despite the New York Yankees’ awesome record over the years, no one has ever made 3,000 hits in his career as a Yankee, nor has any pitcher ever had 300 lifetime victories with the Yankees. Despite their well-deserved reputation as “the Bronx Bombers,” there is only one Yankee among the top ten career homerun hitters.

Which prompted me to look up The Babe’s hit total: 2,873.
