Read Don Carrington’s latest exhumation of lost facts — this time unreported rental income for the Easleys — and you can hear the escape routes slamming shut.

Make no mistake, this is a pretty easy call for federal prosecutors. If the Easleys did not report the income on their taxes, that is tax evasion. End result, jail. If they did report it for tax purposes while they omitted it from state disclosure forms across successive years, that demonstrates intent to defraud the state and deprive citizens of honest services. End result, jail.

I expect a plea deal before the Ides of March.
