There is a lot of post-election speculation out there about exactly what Republicans are going to do now that they’ve gained control of the General Assembly with a $3 billion budget deficit looming. Today’s N&R editorial ponders the situation facing the UNC system, where “serious actions may be required.”

All I know is I’ve been assigned to review William Voegeli’s Never Enough: America’s Limitless Welfare State. Of course America’s welfare state is part of the insatiable liberalism that has dictated the steady growth of government since the mid-20th century that in turn has driven the growth in government jobs.

While Voegeli certainly bemoans the such insatiable liberalism, he also chastises Republicans for lacking the spine to curtail it. They’ve got their chance here in North Carolina, although they’re going to have dole out some serious pain to a group that lives good no matter the state of the economy. It will be interesting to see if they indeed have the spine to do so.
