The Town of Canton wants a new pool, and they can get one for $2.2 million. According to the Smoky Mountain News, if the town goes for a six-lane, it will be eligible for state funding for programs for youth and seniors. Pavilions, cornhole courts, shuffleboard courts, fitness equipment, and disc golf equipment are also part of the plan – in defense of the universal right to cornhole. About half the project would be financed with a 40-year, 3.1% fixed-rate USDA loan, while $475,000 would come from the town’s fund balance. Raising fees from $3 to $4 could collect about another $10,000 a year.
