Dr. Carl Mumpower wrote a bold and badly-needed commentary. He blasted the recent attempt to appropriate city tax dollars for domestic partners on the should-be uncontestable grounds that it takes money from all to support a few. It’s the old argument that government grows as each demand for special disbursements for one group puts another group at a disadvantage, so they feel justified in demanding reparations. What is different, is this commentary was published in the local progressive paper. Mumpower cleverly states his thesis toward the end of the article:

It’s tough being an out-of-the-closet conservative in a decidedly conservative-unfriendly town. As a minority with a social conscience, I hold no inner phobias toward military officers, Firefighters Association members or the LGBT community. I am, however, an admitted dealophobic.
