Somewhat under the radar scope with all the talk of the downtown PAC is Greensboro Coliseum director Matt Brown’s request for $24 million in funding for improvements to the coliseum complex. The council voted 8-1 –with the Trudy Wade casting the lone ‘no’ vote — to approve funding through a limited obligation bond using the hotel tax debt capacity.
Brown’s laundry list includes $3.5 million to replace seating, $4.3 million to widen the concourse by 15 feet, $4.2 million to replace the roof of the coliseum and the special events center and —last but not least — $2.3 million for renovations to the adjacent former Canada Dry building for Greensboro Area Convention and Visitors Bureau offices.
