It is interesting to see “progressives” applaud the Senate GOP for their effort to reduce class sizes in the early grades. (But don’t get them wrong, they still hate – HATE – the Senate education budget proposal.) I particularly enjoyed their claims about JLF’s response to the Senate proposal:
Claim: The John Locke Foundation maintains that “class size is irrelevant.” Although I have written extensively about the class size issue, one of our friends on the Left selected a Carolina Journal article written in 2008 to back his claim. I suppose his approach is easier than engaging in a thoughtful debate about education research or even considering the costs/benefits of reducing class size.
Claim: The Senate’s “actions on class size have been enough to tick off the folks at the Locke Foundation.” I am not ticked off. I disgree…in the most caring and heartfelt way. That’s how I roll.
