No kidding! I missed this over the weekend, being that I was doing lots of Mother’s Day stuff, but a story from the News & Observer
is just amazing. Carrboro Alderman John Herrera told the Orange County
legislative delegation that residents who are “on the path” to
citizenship should be able to vote.

Incredibly, Rep. Joe Hackney, Rep.
Verla Insko and Sen. Ellie Kinnaird thought it was a good idea,
according to the N&O. You just can’t make this stuff up. The voters
in Orange County need to ask these three state legislators (forget
Herrera; he’s hopelessly gone) if they are serious about this. And the
people of Carrboro need to ask their alderman who he’s representing:
the people of his native Costa Rica, Central America and Mexico, or the
actual voting citizens of Carrboro.
