The Buncombe County Commissioners voted to approve vying for a $200,000 grant from the federal CDGB – Ecnomic Recovery program. Approval of a federal HOME loan for the same amount was on the consent agenda. The purpose of both grants was to help people make repairs to their homes. To get some of the CDBG money, one need only fill out an application. Requests are to be met on a first-come, first-served basis, but life-threatening conditions will be given priority status. To continue to be eligible for CDBG funding, the county had to also approve a language access plan to demonstrate to the federal government that it is not discriminating against limited English proficiency (LEP) persons.
