Look who’s answering the N&R’s not-so-subtle outrage over Bluegreen Communities’ $6 million asking price for land the state wants to include in Haw River State Park:

Bluegreen Communities would lose 80 lots in the proposed Patriot’s Landing subdivision by selling to the park, lots that should gross $10 million after development, said Greensboro attorney Henry Isaacson.

“If you want the property, then pay me a fair price for it. I think that’s a reasonable feeling,” said Isaacson, who represents a subsidiary of Bluegreen that hopes to build the project but needs zoning approval.

The interview early this week was the first time Bluegreen representatives responded to questions from the media since plans for Patriot’s Landing emerged several weeks ago.

Before Isaacson’s involvement, the News & Record unsuccessfully sought information from company executives in Florida and the Triangle.

….Isaacson said the company has been generous in its dealings with state government.

Bluegreen’s subsidiary is giving the state about 112 acres on the project’s northern fringe along the river, regardless of whether the state buys the other land, he said.

Note the N&R spin that Bluegreen is asking “$6 million from North Carolina taxpayers for land to expand the park.” Technically true, since the N.C. State Parks System wants to buy the land. By the same token, the parks system didn’t exactly consult this taxpayer before making its expansion plans.
