Becki Gray presented the Buncombe County Republican Women’s Club with her 5-5-5 plan tonight. It consisted of:

  • 5 things conservative leadership was doing in the General Assembly:
    1. Working to get state spending under control.
    2. Attempting to reduce the state’s debt service payments of $1 billion annually, while requiring voter approval of any future debt floated by local governments.
    3. Diverting funds from the 800 bureaucrats in the Department of Public Instruction into classrooms.
    4. Requiring cost-benefit analyses for proposed regulation.
    5. Resisting attempts to unionize more public employees.
  • 5 things the progressives were doing:
    1. Increasing taxes.
    2. Taking money from industry to create public-sector jobs that produce nothing.
    3. Fighting attempts to require voters to show ID.
    4. Preventing exploration for traditional energy sources.
    5. Overriding the free market with incentives for chosen businesses.
  • 5 things concerned citizens ought to be doing:
    1. Keeping up to date with politics.
    2. Praising legislators when they make wise decisions.
    3. Electing conservatives to office.
    4. Electing, in particular, a conservative governor.
    5. Staying involved through fund raising, debate, panel discussions, candidate support, etc.
