Ah, the big picture from Charlotte’s tourism honcho Tim Newman.
Charlotte’s greatest ambition is to lure rednecks to the Queen City and separate them from their cash, which will then pay for the $550 million in Uptown attractions. I see. And we have to go to Philly to figure out how to do that. I see.
Yet Philly, pretty much an economic basket-case, does have real history to visit. Charlotte’s Disney-fied NASCAR addition to its white elephant convention center will not. Tim Newman assumes rednecks won’t know the difference and will show up by the hundreds of thousands every year.
