Aw, I can’t even enjoy a Panthers win without econ development clap-trap intruding. What in the world is Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory talking about here:
“It is a great promotional tool for our city that’s worth millions of dollars. The advertisement — just the overhead shot of Charlotte — is priceless.”
Yes, nice shot, looked even better in hi-def, Pat. But for the game to be an ad there must be a target audience. Who is the target audience? Who is it who does not know Charlotte has a NFL franchise and a tall building or two and why is it important to convey this information to them in a televised broadcast? This benefits the city how?
The answer better not be some company somewhere that would be more inclined to move to Charlotte upon seeing the nice pictures of the skyline and the Panthers in action. If they are that shallow, ill-informed, and out-of-touch, we don’t need them. And we certainly don’t need some public subsidy tossed together to sweeten the deal, either.
