In the Trivial Matters Department, but in answer to questions around our dinner table this week, the St. Petersburg Times says that
1. The New Orleans Zoo, which actually contains the highest ground in the city (Monkey Hill), did okay through the storm and only lost a few flamingos. Apparently they had generators and enough fresh water stored for the animals. (Although now that I think about it, that raises a troubling second question …)
2. The McIlhenney Co. of New Iberia reports that their website is down but the nation’s Tabasco supply is safe.
And the Biloxi Sun Herald reported earlier this week that although Jefferson Davis’ home “Beauvoir” was destroyed, the Confederate president’s statue was found standing in the ruined library with a Confederate flag draped over his arm.
