Smoky Mountain High School will probably get a new gym and fine arts center. Some cost estimates run around $15 million. The Jackson County Commissioners will likely approve the project’s design phases December 5.

The maximum annual debt service on an $11 million debt would be around $980,000, Wooten said, adding he believes the county to have sufficient revenue without having to tap into its general fund. Wooten also suggested the board pledge a revenue stream for the school’s capital construction.
