In this letter to the editor in today’s N&R, Greensboro’s Jackie Freedman says:
Medicare is a government-run health insurance program that actually works, but if Congress does nothing, Medicare is in danger of insolvency in the not-too-distant future.
Seems like we had this discussion a few weeks back about Cash for Clunkers and the definition of a successful government program.
And none other than Robert Reich says in this interesting NYT book review that “Medicare is well on its way to bankrupting the nation.”
Update: Thomas Sowell speculates that President Obama’s rush to pass health reform legislation that wouldn’t go into a affect for years is in order “to get re-elected in 2012 before the public experienced what its actual consequences would be.”
