I realize I crack on my hometown newspaper—the Greensboro News & Record quite a bit—-and much of it is indeed because I disagree with their editorial point of view. But —as a subscriber for 20-plus years, I simply have to speak out about the N&R’s shabby coverage of (supposedly) more Republicans calling for a special session to repeal HB2.

In above-the-fold story (that means it’s really important) headlined Greensboro Republicans join voices to movement to revise or repeal HB 2 head shots of of Rep. Jon Hardister and Greensboro City Council member Tony Wilkins are front and center. Wilkins is quoted:

Wilkins, who is active in statewide Republican politics, said legislators could use the time to revise all but the “bathroom” portion of the law.

“Did we overreach in our response? It appears we did,” he said. “I’m hoping the General Assembly will meet in an effort to find a reasonable solution to the 80 percent of the bill that is causing the economic losses in our community.”

Now that makes no sense because the “‘bathroom part’ of the bill” is what’s “causing the economic losses in our community.” So why would Wilkins want to “revise all but the ‘bathroom’ portion of the law”? Someone’s confused—hey, maybe it’s Wilkins, I think to myself although he’s generally on top of the issues– –but then there’s the small correction the N&R issued in today’s paper:

Greensboro City Council member Tony Wilkins is not seeking the repeal of the law known as HB2. A headline on the Front Page on Saturday was incorrect.

So it appears as though it’s the N&R that was little confused, no doubt in its eagerness to show us all the error of our ways if even the lone conservative member of the City Council wants to repeal HB2.
