While still in Raleigh, I read this morning’s N&O account of three UNC football players’ testimony during the trial of Michael Troy Lewis who, along with his female posse, allegedly sexually assaulted two of the players following their drunken night out.

I’ll set the stage — two unidentified players (the N&O does not identify victims of sexual assault) took center Lowell Dyer out for a night on the town to celebrate his 21st birthday. All three eventually stumble back to the crib……..

Dyer, who acknowledged being drunk, went into his room and collapsed face-down on his bed with his clothes and shoes on.

The other player went down the hall to look for the teammate who preceded them. What he found was Lewis, naked, standing outside a bedroom with a kitchen paring knife in his hand.

It was unclear why Lewis was not wearing clothes, but the player testified that he did not feel threatened by the naked man, that he is a “happy-go-lucky” guy who gives “everybody a chance.”

What can I say, some people just don’t deserve a chance.

Technicality: One of the women is only charged with resisting a public officer.
