Officials in the city of High Point have pitched a plan to spend $1 million a year in taxpayers? money to improve attendance at the International Home Furnishings Market there. Of course, this figure was the result of careful fiscal planning and a searching investigation into the legal and economic case for subsidizing a commercial activity in the city.
Just kidding.
High Point Mayor Becky Smothers announced the plan during a meeting with furniture manufacturers and retailers in High Point. If approved by the City Council, the money would be included in next year?s budget, which begins July 1.
City officials haven?t determined specifically how the money would be spent or where it would come from in the budget.
