As Charlotte, Wilmington, and other communities consider plans from staff to raise taxes and fees this year, I?m thinking that Cabarrus County may have the right idea. Seems that officials there are considering the construction of a jail at the site of the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center. One of the community?s fiscally conservative leaders, commissioner and former state legislator Coy Privette, says that the new jail would be ?a waste of taxpayers?s money,? but I just don?t think he?s getting the picture on this.
A jail? Next to an arena? The solution is obvious: hold gladiatorial games! The skybox revenue alone would likely defray the construction costs.
