Today’s lead editorial disses the gas tax holiday:

But this is about political mileage, not policy sustainability. Maybe it’s a smart bid for votes. Motorists would welcome any break at the pumps and might resent Barack Obama’s dismissal that they’d only save an average of $30 over the entire summer.

In the long haul, however, the country needs to develop more energy resources and break its addiction to foreign oil. Obama has put forward some suggestions, and Clinton and McCain have as well. They all know that encouraging Americans to drive more — many of them in gas-guzzlers, still — isn’t going to pay off down the road. And depleting revenues for transportation projects isn’t going to keep the country moving.

….while Rosemary Roberts (credit where credit is due) hits on the fundamental problem with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s rhetoric and why it’s so crucial that Barack Obama denounce him in no uncertain terms:

So one day back in March, in a class of black and white students, I asked several black students if they had heard the conspiracy theory about the federal government inventing the AIDs virus to inflict on black people.

Yes, they’d heard it. Which is not to say they believed it. The white students, however, looked dumbfounded. Most had never heard it and seemed stunned.

That instantly illustrated a racial divide that Obama, painfully, knows exists in America. In other words, we don’t know each other’s worlds.
