That’s the title of this excellent article in today’s Wall Street Journal by Daniel Henninger. His subject is the many ways that Obama intends to radically change the United States, generally subordinating the private sector (that is, market competition) to the goals and dictates of federal planners. Now, we are already suffering from a highly interventionist government, but Obama’s ignorant fantasies would take us much further into the quagmire of economic central planning and nanny statism.

The condition of the European welfare states the Obama wants to emulate is poor (low economic growth, high unemployment, suffocating bureaucracy), but how much worse off would they be if the last large, fairly free economy — the United States — became just like them? Where will innovation and entrepreneurship take place?
