House Minority Leader Paul Stam started a morning news conference with a brief discussion of the promises King John made in 1215 at Runnymede. Why?
“He promised that henceforth justice and right would not be sold.”
Stam sees obvious parallels between this 800-year-old tenet of English (and later American) law and the scandal involving Jim Black.

Stam also called for action. GOP lawmakers have filed bills to deny state-funded pensions for lawmakers convicted of certain felonies while they’re in office. They’re also filing bills to “repeal the law that was purchased last Session,” a reference to a provision favorable to chiropractors that former Speaker Black had inserted into the state budget.
