You can’t make it up. In Chapel Hill, the Squatters have for weeks been protesting, among other things, the Big, Bad Banks. Then came an email from Chapel Hill Councilman Ed Harrison about the new Wells Fargo ad campaign, which adorns two Chapel Hill Transit buses. It’s an ad campaign that could prove to be — ahem — a bit awkward should the buses drive by the Squatters’ camp. From the Cary News comes the “D’oh!” moment.
“At the meeting of the Public Transit Partners today, there appeared to be strong agreement that this particular wrapped bus should not be operated on any routes passing by the Post Office on Franklin Street in the next month,” council member Ed Harrison said in an email to the council.
That was followed by Mayor Pro Tem Jim Ward, chairman of the committee, clarifying the discussion.
“I don’t recall asking for or getting any specific feedback from Transit Partners. So, while some of those attending may have casually commented, please do not read into content of Ed’s email that any specific or official direction was given by the Transit Partners to the Transit Staff,” Ward wrote in an email to the council.
