The local daily printed an article entitled, “Nuisance or a Right?” The subject is a couple who are living in a tent on the man’s mother’s land, in violation of a zoning ordinance. The man works, and the couple keeps the property clean. The tent is too shabby for at least one neighbor.

One common tater shed light on why some people like zoning:

I’m all for zoning, as I do think there are a lot of benefits to it, however, in this case, I don’t see how this is a violation at all. They own the property. They are not being a nuisance. In fact they’re keeping it clean, . . .

To elaborate what is apparently not obvious to advocates of zoning, zoning often outlaws temporary structures and mobile homes, says how close buildings may be to property lines, limits the number of families that can live on a parcel, and sometimes even restricts the color of exterior paint on a home.

Another common tater told of living in a cow shed with a dirt floor, and somebody replied:

Bless you Elise. When we all settled this place that was the norm. Now folks are nuts…these people should be left alone. Stupid neighbor smacks of mrs cravitz (sp) from bewitched.
