Today’s 1 p.m. Raleigh City Council meeting should be very, very interesting as the council is set to again discuss the desire by some to restrict the tearing down and rebuilding of homes in older areas. Last time around, the council got an unexpected negative reaction from those who support property rights. Now, a group has formed to represent that point of view. According to the News & Observer:

“We believe that the City Council is overstepping its grounds by limiting — or denying — a property owner from building a new home or renovating a current house,” Philip Miller, a Renew Raleigh leader, said in a press release.

“Many residents — including myself — who have bought property in established, family-friendly neighborhoods and are hoping to redesign our homes or to sell our homes to someone who will then renovate the homes, are increasingly concerned that the City Council will stop us from moving forward with our plans.”
