Read this cover story from today’s News & Observer, and you’ll find another example of bureaucrats searching for a problem that does not exist.

Collegiate women’s basketball teams conduct basketball practices with men to help the women improve their play. The men do not steal playing time or roster spots from the women. Nor would they desire to take those roster spots.

If the NCAA goes ahead with the proposed ban of men from women’s basketball practice sessions, I predict an increase in the number of unsanctioned, unofficial scrimmages involving men and women. Why? The most competitive women want to prove they can win in games involving men. They realize that those practice sessions help them.
