The Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority gave $500,000 to a zipline outdoor adventure business. The award was just one of many intended to increase room nights. The TDA is funded through room tax revenues.
The other zipline in Buncombe County is not particularly jolly about the disadvantage government has created for their business. Spokespeople from the government-selected loser argued they thought the dollars should go toward some more general purpose that would benefit the public at-large.
