As noted below, Larry Kissell, a freshman Congressman from N.C.’s 8th Congressional District, is kicking back at a challenge from a union-backed third party candidate.
Kissell’s office released a letter yesterday (PDF download) detailing ethics violations by the candidate, Wendell Fant, who is also a former Kissell staffer. The letter, addressed to the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, reads in part:
This letter serves to inform you of improper conduct violating House Rules by a former employee of my office, Mr. Wendell Fant. Mr. Fant was recently asked to resign from my office due to the discovery that he had broken House Rules by working on his own case with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) using his official title, House of Representatives computer, and his official email account, a violation of House Rule 23. After his departure from my office, it was discovered that in addition to using House resources to try to secure a claim with the VA that he had also used his official title, House of Representatives computer, and his official email account to contact Wells Fargo Bank about his personal home mortgage modification and conduct outside business as a Mortgage Marketing Representative and Recruiter.
