On Monday, Charlotte residents got a welcome reprieve when
the
Charlotte City Council passed a no-tax-increase budget. John Hood
congratulated the JLF team for playing a constructiv
role in refocusing Charlotte’s public discussion on options other tha
a tax hike
by providing substance, cogent argument, and intellectual ammunition
that helped sway policymakers. The council’s move came after severa
weeks of efforts, which received high-profile press coverage and
comments from city council members. The coverage included Hood and Jeff
A. Taylor speaking to the council and public at a public hearing. Hood
used the opportunity to name cities with lower burdens than Charlotte,
and his listing made that night’s WCNC news. Taylor was quoted
prominently in the Charlotte Observer about his statement
noting “all kinds of goodies throughout this budget that go beyond what
would be a core services budget.” Chad Adams also played a role with an
interview on WBTV.
