I just rediscovered this great quote from the late Joseph Sobran, controversial pundit and National Review editor until he was canned for allegedly having anti-semitic views, although I have heard some suggested that it was because he was an outspoken critic of the first Iraq war.

“‘Need’ now means wanting someone else’s money.  ‘Greed’ means wanting to keep your own.  ‘Compassion’ is when a politician arranges the transfer.”

I first read this quote in one of his Washington Times columns many years ago.
