Some minor, though still interesting, flight schedule changes and non-changes from American and Delta out of CLT.

American is dropping one of its four flights to Miami come April 7. The move apparently came on short notice — I hadn’t noticed the reduction in their February timetable (yes, it would extend that far out) or until very recently on their online flight schedule searches. The word was that AA did well on CLT-MIA because of BofA traffic, so that could explain the suddenness of the cut.

Also, no extra summer seasonal flight on American this year to Dallas. The airline is just operating five-daily 140-seat MD-80s, which is their base schedule for the rest of the year as well.

American’s other flights from CLT are all on 44 or 50 seat regional jets: 4 daily to Chicago O’Hare, soon to be 3 daily to Miami, and 2 daily to St. Louis.

Back in September, Delta Air Lines dropped their daily Charlotte – Salt Lake City flight. The was some suggestion that this was a seasonal reduction. Well, Delta’s summer schedule is out — and SLC isn’t on it, just like it wasn’t on the spring schedule, or the winter schedule, or (obviously) last fall’s schedule. So much for this being a “seasonal” reduction.

That said, the route did OK and RDU-SLC — which performed about the same if not slightly worse — is still around. In other words, I would not be surprised at all if CLT-SLC wre to reappear at some point, maybe after the Delta/Northwest merger gets completed and the economy picks up a bit.
