hhAs a public service we note that absent action last month by the EPA to re-define ozone standards, today would not be a Code Orange day.

The 1997 standard for hazardous ozone was 0.085 ppm, the new standard is 0.075 ppm. In addition, the NC Div of Air Quality used to start tracking ozone May 1st. That is obviously no longer the case either.

The upshot is that Charlotte will almost certainly set a “record” this ozone season for most Code Red/Orange days. You have been warned.
