Aiming to kindle the flames of egalitarians, the New York Times recently ran a front-page “news” item about the supposed failure of the economy to distribute wealth in a properly “fair” way.
A tendentious study purporting to find an imperfect distribution of wealth is hardly news. News stories should be about things that happen, not about statistical discrepancies. This episode shows again how far the Times has sunk into opinion shaping rather than news reporting.
Anyway, my Freeman colleague Sheldon Richman has written an excellent response, which is available here. I strongly recommend it.
