The local Knight Ridder outlet got part of the argument right on how best to deal with CMS enrollment gains. (“Student growth” sounds like they are eight feet tall and 300 pounds, by-the-way.)

“CMS indeed must search for ways to build more for less to meet the demand,” we’re told. Correct. Score one.

“But the John Locke report cannot dispute the enrollment gains. Officials cannot ignore the needs that get more pressing each year” Sigh. Minus five. Please read the selection again.

In that report, entitled Building for the Future: The School Enrollment Boom in North Carolina hint hint, on Page 9 to be exact, we have the following:

Clearly, school districts occasionally require additional funds to build and renovate facilities that accommodate school enrollment increases, but recurring multi-million dollar bond referendums and annual tax increases will not solve the long-term problem of … facilities.

The enrollment gains were not ignored or disputed. Otherwise the report would be a Post-It with “IGNORE” written on it.
