Donald Bryson serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the John Locke Foundation and Publisher of Carolina Journal.

As CEO, Bryson is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing Locke’s long tradition of advocating for individual freedom, free markets, and limited government in North Carolina.

Prior to assuming the role of CEO, Bryson played a pivotal role as the President of the John Locke Foundation and was instrumental in the merger between the John Locke Foundation and the Civitas Institute, where he had previously served as CEO.

Before joining Locke, Bryson served as the North Carolina State Director for Americans for Prosperity from 2014 to 2018. His tenure saw numerous successful initiatives in advancing conservative values and principles in North Carolina, including advocating for significant reductions in state income tax and expanding the Opportunity Scholarship school voucher program.

Bryson is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and holds a Certificate in Leadership from Wake Forest University.

Bryson is a member of the American Enterprise Institute’s Leadership Network – an exclusive policy education and professional development program for state-based executives in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

His writings on history, politics, and public policy have been featured in distinguished publications, including Fox News, Investor’s Business Daily, National Review, and The Wall Street Journal.
