Lisa Barnes, a Nash County native, is currently serving District 7 in the North Carolina House, representing Franklin and Nash counties. She is a member of the Agriculture, Health, Judiciary, Rules and Appropriations Standing Committees as well as the House Select Committees on COVID-19 and Disaster Relief.  Prior to being elected to the State House, Lisa served at the local level for six years as a county commissioner.

Lisa grew up on a farm in rural southern Nash county, where her family had a small livestock operation.  She continues to work in agribusiness alongside her husband Johnny, and son, Joshua, utilizing her experience as a paralegal in managing the real estate portion of the business.  Their family-owned farm produces sweetpotatoes, tobacco, wheat, soybeans, peanuts and seedless watermelons.

Lisa is a graduate of Peace College, NC State University, and the post graduate Legal Assistants Program at Meredith College. In addition to their son Joshua, Johnny and Lisa have two daughters, a son-in-law and a daughter-in-law. In her spare time, Lisa enjoys volunteering with Dew 4 Him ministries, cooking, paddleboarding and traveling. One of the Barnes family’s favorite pastimes is tailgating with friends at NCSU football games.
