I have not yet visited the recently-opened ACC Hall of Champions, but I do plan to pay my five bucks and check it out with an open mind.

I also read with an open mind yesterday’s N&R write-up, which, interestingly enough, is unposted. The lede sets the defensive tone that runs throughout the article:

Organizers of the new ACC Hall of Champions, which finally opened Thursday at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, urge visitors not to judge the nearly $2.5 million attraction too quickly.

….Organizers have repeatedly stressed that guests would see only the first phase of a multiphase project.

….”It’s not that we don’t know what we’re doing,” said Henri Fourier, president and CEO of the Greensboro Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “This is a very small piece…of what we anticipate in the future. All (of those details) will have to be hashed out.

I’ve realized all along that this indeed is the first phase of what coliseum director Matt Brown hopes will be a $20 million taxpayer-supported tourist attraction. And it was good to see the N&R show a little skepticism, citing low attendance numbers at International Civil Rights Museum and the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Still, it seems like a strange about-face after the local paper of record did everything it could to promote the HOC.
