Ribbon cutting for the ACC Hall of Champions is next Wednesday. It will certainly be interesting to see what Greensboro Coliseum director Matt Brown can do with $2 million in taxpayers’ money, with another $18 million on the way, although no one knows when that will come through given the state’s budget situation.

To answer Triadwatch’s question, my memory is the ACC is putting no money into the project because the brand itself is worth its weight. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I get Ed Cone’s sarcasm, because there are a lot of coliseum critics out there. But I don’t believe anybody really thinks an ACC Hall of Champions is “awful for Greensboro.” I hope it’s a first-class operation that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to G’boro.

It’s just important to remember that the ACC Hall of Champions, like a NASCAR Hall of Fame, is a taxpayer-financed-amenity that more than likely will never pay for itself. And, as we’re learning the hard way, there is not a limitless supply of money.
