State corrections records indicate that alleged light rail attacker Antonio Cathey, 17, was one week into a 12-month probation sentence for larceny when police say Cathey along with three others assaulted a LYNX rider in Uptown Charlotte. An unnamed local banker required stitches as a result of the Monday morning attack, which was witnessed by several dozen other transit riders, none of whom attempted to stop the attack.

Cathey was been charged with misdemeanor assault and battery in connection with Monday’s incident. In February, county records indicate that Cathey was charged with resisting an officer and released on $600 bond. In December 2009 Cathey was charged in connection with a fight at the Uptown Transit Center. In August of last year, Cathey was arrested for marijuana possession. And in June of 2009 Cathey was charged with felony larceny and released on $1000 bond.

It was on this larceny charge — pled down to a misdemeanor in standard Mecklenburg County form — that Cathey received a sentence of 12 months probation on April 23rd. Ten days later authorities contend Cathey was roughing up a banker on Charlotte’s $500m. light rail line.

Prediction: Should we get additional arrests in this case, the criminal records will be substantially similar to that of Cathey.

Update: Mecklenburg County jail records indicate that Cathey was released on a $1000 bond at 4:52 this morning, May 6th, after approximately eight hours in jail.
