Organizing for America sent this message from our calm, cool, collected president who has the power to turn back the seas and bring peace by his very presence.

SUBJECT: We will not back down

As we head into the final stretch on health reform, big insurance company lobbyists and their partisan allies hope that their relentless attacks and millions of dollars can intimidate us into accepting the status quo.

So I have a message for them, from all of us: Not this time. We have come too far. We will not turn back. We will not back down.

Coaches and players know to respect their opponents, no matter how weak and not say anything that will serve as motivation, but language like this puts the current administration in a league of its own. It is of a piece with the earlier claims of speaking truth to power when criticizing Fox News. It is not becoming of a president – any president – of the United States.

Imagine Roy Williams warning that Presbytarian College would be working the referees Saturday in Chapel Hill. Or Joe Girardi whining that Pirates pitchers were trying to intimidate his batters. When you are coach of the Tar Heels, manager of the Yankees, or president of the United States you don’t get to play the victim. Especially not when your government agencies use their official sites to promote your agenda, when you set up a snitch line, and when your allies accuse your opponents of being pro-slavery misogynists.
