Gardner-Webb University was the only institution of higher education in North Carolina to receive an “A” from a recent American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) study of curriculum requirements, “What Will They Learn“.  ACTA examined course requirements in seven core subjects: Composition, Literature, Foreign Language, U.S. Government or History, Economics, Mathematics, and Natural or Physical Science.  Only 21 colleges and universities nationwide received an “A” grade.  One-third of the “A” schools are located in Texas and California.

The lowest scoring schools in North Carolina were Appalachian State, Guilford College, Pfeiffer University, UNC-Wilmington, Western Carolina, and Winston-Salem State.  Each met ACTA standards in only two of the seven core subjects and received a “D” as a result.
