InsideHigherEd.com is reporting today on a program at Towson Univesity, in Maryland, where the school is admitting students whose SAT scores are high, but their GPA’s … well, that’s another story. Many of the students who have been admitted because of the program are white males. The program was implemented because of a “gender gap” on campus. The article goes on to talk about how other schools are considering a similar program to get more males in college.

I’ve got a novel idea, how about just considering someone based on the nature of their qualifications regardless of race or gender. Of course, academia doesn’t want that. They would rather class people into groups to create some form of pseduo equality amongst the various groups. Of course, this is also another example of higher education believing it has the cure for everyone when most of the time it does not.
